Board Minutes July 10, 2017

CAL COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

BOARD OF EDUCATION

REGULAR MEETING

JULY 10, 2017

 

The CAL Board of Education met for its regular meeting on July 10, 2017 in the CAL District Office.  President Mitch Vanness called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.  Present were board members Mitch Vanness, Rob Peil, Jacob McNutt, and Austin Elling.  Board member Cathy Carlson was absent.  Also present were Superintendent Todd Lettow, District Administrator Steve Lane, Secretary Amanda Heiden and Head Custodian Frank Patrick.

 

A motion to approve the agenda as presented in Mr. Lettow’s notes was made by McNutt, seconded by Peil.  All ayes.

 

The board recognized Ethan Stoetzer from the Hampton Chronicle, Autumn Colglazier, Darla Mougey, Alex Mougey, Zach Vanness, Luke Rapp, Miguel Yanez, Landon Schwendinger, Nate Rapp, Ben Rapp, Mike Rapp, Cody Turner, Logan Colglazier, Andrew Bell, Nick Turner and Jenny Turner as visitors.

 

A motion to approve the consent agenda and the paying of the bills was made by Elling, seconded by Peil.  All ayes.

 

The board heard discussion from the visitors regarding the baseball season for next year.

 

Frank Patrick gave the facilities and maintenance report, which included a quote from Morts’ Water to replace drain pipes on the southwest side of the school.  A motion to approve the quotes from Adams Concrete, Craighton Electric and Morts’ Water to remove the outdoor walkway and replace drains by the cafeteria and the southwest side of the school with a total amount up to $55,000 was made by Elling, seconded by McNutt.  All ayes.

There were no transportation and curriculum reports for the month.

Mr. Lane and Mr. Lettow gave their administrative reports.

 

A motion to approve the following as the Child Nutrition Negative Meal Policy: Families will have use of a meal account, when the balance of the account reaches negative $25.00 per student the student will be provided an alternative meal at no extra cost until the account balance reaches above negative $25.00 per student. The alternative meal will be determined by the school and kitchen staff.  Staff will have use of a meal account and can charge up to $25.00 dollars negative in their account.  If the account is $25.00 or more in the hole, staff will not be allowed to charge meals until the account is paid.  No seconds or extras can be charged to an account that has a negative account balance.  The motion to approve the policy was made by Peil, seconded by Elling.  All ayes.

 

A motion to approve Amanda Heiden as the 2017-2018 Board Secretary was made by McNutt, seconded by Elling.  All ayes.

A motion to approve Marlys Pralle as the 2017-2018 Board Treasurer was made by Elling, seconded by Peil.  All ayes.

A motion to approve Matt Anderson of Heiny, McManigal, Duffy, Stambaugh and Anderson PLC as the 2017-2018 District Legal Counsel was made by

A motion to approve Jim Hanks of Ahlers and Cooney, P.C. as the District’s 2017-2018 Representative for Personnel Relations was made by Elling, seconded by McNutt.  All ayes.

A motion to approve to participate in the 2017-2018 Federal Child Nutrition Program was made by Peil, seconded by McNutt.  All ayes.

A motion to approve the 2017-2018 NIACC Agreement was made by McNutt, seconded by Elling.  All ayes.

The board held discussion on the legislative priorities and agreed to support the following policies: 5; 14; 22; 26; 30.

A motion to approve a 2017-2018 Head Volleyball coaching contract for Brittni Miller was made by McNutt, seconded by Peil.  All ayes.

A motion to approve a 2017-2018 contract for Danielle Brood as part-time At Risk Coordinator was made by Elling, seconded by Peil.  All ayes.

The board tabled an open enrollment application into the CAL District from the Belmond-Klemme School District until the August board meeting.  The board also reviewed three open enrollment applications out to Belmond-Klemme Community School District; three open enrollment applications out to Ames Community School District and two open enrollment applications out to Hampton-Dumont Community School District.

 

The Board discussed holding a joint board meeting with Hampton-Dumont on August 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the CAL Media Center.

The Board set a tentative date for the beginning of the year board picnic at the Carlson Tree Lodge for August 22nd at 5:30 p.m.

 

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Elling, seconded by Peil.  All ayes.  The meeting was adjourned at 9:01 p.m.
