New Principal Introduction

Mrs. Abby Meyer

Dear Families and Community Members,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I am looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you as we partner to make this an incredible year of learning for the students at CAL Elementary!

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and tell you a bit about myself. My name is Abby Meyer and I am thrilled to be the elementary principal at CAL! I live in Rockwell with my husband Randy, my children Allison, Alex and Lilly and my 4- legged children, Cody, Carley and Copper. My oldest daughter Allison is a senior at UNI this year majoring in art. My son, Alex will be starting his freshman year of college at Waldorf University. He is playing football and majoring in criminal justice. My youngest daughter Lilly is a sophomore at Mason City. My husband works for the Mason City School District at the transportation director and the supervisor of grounds.

I was born and raised in the Twin Cities area. I grew up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. I am the oldest of 5 children. I enjoy spending time with my husband and children fishing, golfing, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and simply spending time together.

I have a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University in elementary education with a minor in special education. I have a Master’s Degree, also from Concordia University in Literacy. Finally, I earned my Education Specialist Degree from Concordia University in January of this year.

I have more than 20 years of experience teaching students from preschool to grade 5, as well as students who speak English as a second language. Additionally, I have experience as an instructional coach. I enjoy working with teachers to help them achieve their goals for their students. I believe strongly that it takes a village to educate a child and working together we are able to accomplish much more than we could working alone.

My goals for this school year are to get to know the staff, students, families and community members of CAL Elementary. I am very fortunate to be able to partner with Mr. Lane this year and I look forward to learning from him as we work together to make CAL Elementary an amazing place for students and staff.  Most importantly, I will focus on supporting teachers in every way possible so that they are able to do the hard work of educating our children in an atmosphere of high expectations, positivity and innovation.

I am sharing my time between CAL and Hampton-Dumont. However, Mr. Lane will be at CAL full time. To begin the school year, I will plan to start my mornings at CAL on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This will be an excellent time to reach me. I will plan to work with teacher PLC’s (Professional Learning Communities) in the afternoons on Wednesday’s. I will serve as an instructional coach at Hampton-Dumont on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and Wednesday mornings. You can reach me by phone or email at any time.

As we move through the school year, do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. Again, I look forward to getting to know all of you and working together to make CAL Elementary an amazing place for students and staff to learn and grow!

Sincerely,

Abby Meyer
