Please welcome our newest staff member to CAL!
It is with great excitement to introduce you to the newest staff member at CAL. Meet Viking, a service dog in training, from Retrieving Freedom Inc. in Waverly, IA. Viking will be assisting me, the school counselor, on Mondays. Viking is in the middle of his service dog training and is in the process of being matched up with a Veteran. Viking will be a great asset to the school by helping with guidance/character lessons, individual and group counseling sessions, deescalating upset children, and much more, but what is even more important is that CAL School has the opportunity to help Viking become a better service dog for his Veteran. The more Viking is exposed to different environments, people, and situations the more he will learn and be able to better assist his Vet.
I live in Waverly where RFI is located and enjoy volunteer there. I have been volunteer since 2014 and have seen and felt how amazing it is to be apart of RFI's mission! Viking is our second service dog in-training that we have hosted at CAL. Tucker was our 2014-2015 dog, and the students have a hard time telling Viking apart from Tucker! It's amazing to see how the presence of a dog can improve the mood of a student! If you would like to learn more about service dogs and/or Retrieving Freedom Inc please visit their website here. Also, if you have any questions, concerns, or would like more information about Viking being at CAL, please do not hesitate to contact me!
