Stage of Instruction/Covid-19 Information

Stage of Instruction

Our goal is to keep students and families informed as we return to school for the 2020-2021 school year. Below you will find information regarding the Stage of Instruction currently being implemented by CAL Community School District. Decisions regarding the Stage of Instruction are made as per guidance from our Health & Safety Community Partners. When possible, decisions regarding what Stage of Instruction students are in will be decided upon every other Tuesday for the following two-weeks.

CURRENT STAGE OF INSTRUCTION FOR 10/19/2020 - 10/30/2020

STAGE 3: ON-SITE LEARNING while addressing specific exposure areas where needed, accommodating some students in a distance learning model.

For Franklin County 14 day average Coronavirus positivity rates, click here.

From our Return to Learn Plan

  • With the goal of remaining in the on-site mode as much as possible, we will address specific areas in our district where suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 may exist.  In those situations, we will work closely with public health for guidance.
  • Depending on guidance, the district may determine a particular area (classroom, grade, building) may need to move into Required Distance Learning for a period of time to contain infection rates.
  • The rest of the district would remain in the on-site learning mode with safety precautions.
  • In rare circumstances, it may be necessary for a family to choose for their student(s) to use a distance learning model.
    • Those who are medically-fragile, have underlying health conditions, or live with someone who is susceptible.
  • For additional details, please see the CAL Return to Learn Plan.

Once we learn of a confirmed positive diagnosis of COVID-19:

  • A designated school employee will talk with staff along with parent/student to begin a contact tracing process. This will allow for the identification of other students and staff members at school who may be considered exposed. Exposure is defined by the CDC as being within six-feet of the person with the virus and for 15 consecutive minutes or more.
  • District Nursing staff will contact Franklin County Public Health to begin collaborating on identifying close contacts.
  • Individuals who are considered to be a close contact will be contacted directly by phone.

We are using the CDC guidance in our contact tracing process to determine if someone should be considered exposed to the virus.
