4th graders testing their specialized external features (aka beaks!) this morning!

More beak testing in 4th grade today!

More parachute pictures from 1st grade yesterday!

1st grade enjoyed finishing up there parachutes in innovation club yesterday! There challenge was to build a parachute that will hold and egg and not break on cement. Hopefully will test these next week!

Mrs. Meyer and Jace were supporting the Vikings today for Team Day!

4 year old preschool has been learning about nursery rhymes as part of their reading curriculum. They are getting really good at saying the rhymes AND doing all of the motions!

Kindergarten has been learning about trees and leaves in science so today they got to make leaf rubbings!

Beak testing continued!

4th grade put a lot of research and time into designing a beak that worked well for a specific food source, and today they were able to start testing them. They were given a real example of their specific food source (or something very similar…) and had to figure out how successful their design was. They talked about what worked well and how and why they might make changes. Overall they had to determine if their design would help the bird survive! The rest of 4th grade will test tomorrow!

4th grade has been doing a cross curricular project in science, innovation club, reading, writing, and social studies! Students have done extensive research on external features specifically beaks of birds that eat very specific foods! Then students created sketches of a beak that they could build and use to try out on that food source! Students had to have dimensions, sketches from multiple angles, beak features, and birds that have this type of beak. Today was testing day for half of our students!

Yesterday 4 year old preschool had their turn to use some garden goodies! They followed 3rd grade’s ‘algorithm’ for carrot cupcakes and stirred up their own batch using carrots from the school garden and eggs from the school’s chickens! This morning they got to taste test!

Our Kindergarten friends have been so anxious to get the LEGOs out! Finally we did a STEM contest in Innovation Club. Students worked as a team to figure out how to build the tallest tower in 10 minutes!

2nd grade got to finish their free time in the CELL today that they earned as their PBIS reward! They were so creative with their time!

Our Librarian Mrs. Jacob’s read How to Apologize, a silly and fun story on how to be a kind friend!

The CELL (CAL Elementary Learning Lab) was a busy place today! 4th graders were working on creating models of their animals while 2nd grade was celebrating reaching their PBIS reward with extra time in The CELL!!!

The third grade has been learning about external structures and how they impact the survival of an animal. In innovation club, they created sparrow beaks and duck bills. Today we got to test them! With their sparrow beaks they had 45 seconds to get as many seeds as they could out of rocks. With their duck bills, they had to scoop seeds out of water! Next we will be discussing which designs worked the best and how this impacted the survival of their birds.
