We have been busy preparing for our 2nd Annual CAL Thanksgiving Day Parade! 2nd grade spent time exploring what materials would work to build a structure on the Bee Bots to carry a balloon. After analyzing our data, they identified the best materials and built their official structures. Look for these structures in our parade which will be airing early next week!

Join us tomorrow for Cookies and Conversation!

Fractions are parts of a WHOLE!! 3rd graders worked at their fraction stations in order to break their "wholes" into equal fraction parts. (We had a whole cup of rice, a whole yard of string, a whole container of playdough, etc...)

Join us this Wednesday 16th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at CAL's cafeteria for cookies and Conversation!

2nd grade students enjoying their PBIS blanket day reward while reading independently.

1st grade exploring more with light. Today we used a flashlight and mirror to figure out how to redirect the light beam. They then got a book and tried to get the reflection of the light onto the book from the mirror!

4th grade has been working hard on reading and math assessments! They earned a mini PBIS reward of Cosmic Kids Yoga to relax and recharge after a long week! Who’s That Pokémon?!

3rd grade used vertical learning stations to practice fractions in math today. If students had an idea to share, their partner had to write it. They took turns listening and writing in order to show various fractions.

1st grade enjoyed having 3rd grade come in and share what they learned about the body syatems!

5th grade LOVES to play blooket! It is a great website to review previous lessons and learn new things! Today they played Deceptive Dinos which reviewed their math facts!!

One of our 6th graders designed this rock/cave structure for our frog habitat. It finished printing on our 3D printer this afternoon and the frogs were on it right away!

5th graders have been working so hard in math class this week! They have been working in groups to solve problems using the standard algorithm and area models for multiplication! Some of their answers have been in the millions!! 😳😳

Kindergarten had their first chance to use our virtual reality goggles! They have been learning about Iowa’s environmental characteristics. They viewed different environments on the
virtual reality goggles and had to decide if what they were viewing was in Iowa or not in Iowa.

PreK students have been learning about patterns. What a pattern is, how to predict a pattern, and creating simple and complex patterns. In Innovation we worked on finishing a pattern and then entering that pattern into the kinderbots to code them!

3rd grade has been exploring force and motion. Today they were introduced to a Rube Goldberg machine and as part of that they got to explore dominoes! They had some very creative designs!
